New BoAP Addition: The Nauvoo Neighbor
August 31, 2011 6 Comments
This summer BYU student Braden Johnson did some work for BoAP and we announce now that the Nauvoo Neighbor, a Nauvoo newspaper published between 1843 and 1845 will soon be available on the BoAP website for your reading pleasure. This is a great example of newsprint from the period and in addition to the pdf scans there are a couple of companion indices including a topical index for article content, etc. All thanks to Braden. Enjoy. We’ll have it up in a week or so. Look on the home page (boap.org) for the link next week. If you find these useful, please give us a shout out in your work.
Dale R. Broadhurst’s transcripts for the Neighbor are available here.

Huzzah!!!
Fan-friggin-tastic.
Nice.
We are ever in your debt. It’s been ridiculously painful to read this paper to date.
I’ve read a handful of books about the Nauvoo period but no periodicals. What’s a good way for a total novice to read something like the Nauvoo Neighbor? Chronologically? By topic? What might I look for and how can I enhance what I learn? Thanks for your efforts and Braden’s too. I really enjoy your blog.
The Neighbor is so short it’s just fun to read it straight through. There will be a couple if indices with it, so if you want to read topically, you can. It’s a great slice of life in Nauvoo.
